Week 3 Lab 3 Deliverable

Week 3 Lab 3 Deliverable

Each group should answer all questions together and submit one survey and one group response.

Include a header with the names of all group members.

Due before next class

Creating a Survey on Intimate Partner Violence

In this lab, you will design a survey and identify the levels of measurement of your variables.

Your research question is:

What is the prevalence of Psychological/Emotional Intimate Partner Violence in Brooklyn?

Assume you will give this survey to a representative sample of household members in Brooklyn.

1. Create a survey using Google Forms that will give you data to answer your research question. Make sure you follow the best practices we have discussed in class.

Your survey should have between 7 and 10 questions, including socio-demographic information. Consult the “Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Violence Victimization Assessment Instruments for Use in Healthcare Settings”, by the CDC for the questions on emotional or psychological violence (download it from the Resources page)

Send the survey link to [email protected]

2. Identify the unit of analysis of the research and list all your questions here. For each question identify whether it is numerical or categorical, and what response options there are.

Sampling Strategy (who you will give the survey to). Answer all the following questions:

3. What is your study population?

4. Which representative sampling strategy will you use? Why?

5. Discuss in detail how you will draw your sample (your procedure.)

    3. Study of population are adults aged 18+. (primarily brooklyn college students)

    4. Simple Random sampling reaching out to college students and young adults all through social media because it is so accessible and would be able to reach more people. Since it is a very short and simple survey, we would go to highly populated areas on Brooklyn college campus during common hour.

    5. Common hour when campus is open would allow for large groups of people to be accessible and stopped to participate in quick survey. Since Covid-19 is an issue right now, social media makes people possibly even more accessible. Posting the survey in Brooklyn college groups on Facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. could have a lot of people not only finish the survey but share for more participants as well.

    2. • Unit of Analysis: The individual in question.

    • Answers for each survey question: categorical, categorical, categorical, categorical, categorical, categorical, categorical, categorical, numerical, categorical

    3. Participants between 18-50 years old

    4. • Stratified sampling

    • Male and female athletes from Brooklyn College

    5. We would first ask permission from the basketball coach, for example (albeit after practice), in order to hopefully procure access to the athletes so our survey can be answered. This process will allow us time to then ask for the student athletes’ emails and send them the links to the survey. We will include to the coach that the survey is short and will therefore not be onerous to the athletes’ time. The utilization of emails for the survey should ensure a more successful response rate for our study.

  4. Danial Mudassar

    1) emailed
    2) the questions are categorical. Most questions asked required a the answer to a previous question.
    3) study population would tend to be where there is a higher chance for these partner violence.
    4) person to person, to get proper results I would seperate the 2 partners temporarily and ask on questions then the other separately. This will give me the most precise answers.
    5) I would first go to the area where most cases tend to happen. I would then separate the 2 and ask the questions. I would rinse repeat this process until I can get to a resolution
