Week 15 Lab 16

Week 15, Lab 16

Chi-square, T-test, ANOVA

In this class we discuss how to perform Chi-square tests, T-tests, and ANOVA tests using Excel.

Remember that the first part of the bivariate analysis is descriptive. So the first parts of the videos show how to use Excel’s Pivot Table function to analyse a database. Once the descriptive analysis is done, the next step is to carry out statistical tests.

The first video shows you how to perform a Chi-square test.

The second video, below, shows how to carry out a T-test. Again, the first part of the video shows how to carry out a descriptive bivariate analysis, and then how to perform a T-test. The T-test is used when the categorical variable has only 2 categories.

The third video shows how to perform an ANOVA test. The ANOVA test is used when the categorical variable has 3 or more categories.

Because the online version of Excel does not include the ANOVA test option, we are using one of many online resources to calculate ANOVA. This link will take you to an online ANOVA calculator at the Social Science Statistics webpage. Check out the other content of the webpage, it is really interesting!
